Loft in the city

In the heart of Berlin’s historic industrial landscape lies a remarkable transformation—a former workshop, built in 1880, now reimagined into a vibrant, family-friendly residence. Tucked between the city’s iconic second and third courtyards, this heritage-listed brick building had sat unused for years, its raw charm waiting to be rediscovered. The original structure retained its Wilhelminian-era character, featuring vaulted ceilings, cast-iron columns, and steel beams that embodied the rugged beauty of its time. The renovation celebrated these elements, blending them seamlessly with contemporary architecture.

Two minimalist, cube-like volumes were introduced within the expansive hall, connected by a sleek, modern staircase. These structures house essential functions such as storage and bathrooms, while the upper level of one cube creates a cozy, elevated living area—a private nook within the open-plan layout. This design strikes a perfect balance between preserving the building’s historical integrity and adapting it for modern living. The grandeur of the industrial space is maintained, while intimate, functional zones cater to the practical needs of a growing family.

The result is a home that tells a story—of history, transformation, and timeless design. A Village in the Courtyard is a striking example of how Berlin’s architectural legacy can be thoughtfully woven into contemporary life, creating spaces that inspire while remaining rooted in the city’s rich past.

We handled every phase of construction, from the initial sketches to selecting the curtains, ensuring that every detail was carefully considered. The challenge of this project was to create a more family-friendly home, with three bedrooms: a master suite and two children's rooms that share a central bathroom. A large open-plan kitchen space was envisioned as the heart of the family’s activities, while playful volumes and an elevated living area offer an inviting atmosphere. The project took approximately two years to complete, as despite the existing exterior shell, we had to entirely rebuild the structure to integrate the 100-square-meter basement with the ground floor, adding natural light in the process.

This might not be immediately visible in the photos, but beneath the terrace, which was completely demolished and reconstructed 30 cm higher, there is a large playroom that houses musical instruments, a foosball table, and a private sauna. It also connects to a private gym.

The transformation of this space recalls the loft of Lonely Boy in Gossip Girl, with its industrial charm and contemporary flair. Indeed, Berlin's urban landscape often evokes a New York vibe—where history and modernitycoexist, raw spaces are reimagined, and the cosmopolitan spirit of the city mirrors that of the Big Apple.

NEW YORK, New York

Reinterpreting the New York Loft in a New Skyscraper: A Fusion of Raw Materials and Classic Elegance

In this groundbreaking project, located atop a striking new skyscraper in the heart of New York, we are reimagining the iconic New York loft style, merging its raw, industrial appeal with a touch of classic sophistication. The aim is to create a space that not only reflects the essence of the city's artistic spirit but also incorporates the luxury and comfort of modern living.

The project leverages the inherent character of the building’s raw materials, particularly the exposed concrete, which plays a central role in grounding the design. The natural concrete surfaces, left deliberately exposed, create a tactile, earthy feel, evoking the essence of artist studios and industrial spaces that are synonymous with New York’s creative history. These elements are seamlessly integrated into the overall design, maintaining an industrial aesthetic while introducing modern conveniences and elegant details.

At the heart of the design is the expansive open floor plan, which maximizes the panoramic views of the city. Black steel windows provide a dramatic frame for the skyline, allowing natural light to flood the space while maintaining a sense of privacy and intimacy. The layout is intentionally open to emphasize the sweeping vistas and to encourage a fluid, uninterrupted flow between spaces, from the living areas to the kitchen and dining areas. This openness enhances the loft's airy, expansive feel, while the raw concrete floors serve as a perfect base to highlight the bold contemporary art pieces strategically placed throughout the space.

To balance the industrial elements, classic design touches are thoughtfully integrated, providing contrast and sophistication. Elegant wood accents, plush textiles, and subtle classic furniture pieces add warmth and softness to the otherwise minimalist environment. The timeless charm of these elements brings a sense of comfort and refinement, making the space feel both modern and lived-in.

The result is a loft that harmoniously blends artistic rawness with refined luxury. It is a sanctuary that captures the vibrancy of New York’s cultural pulse while offering the serene comforts of a private retreat. The juxtaposition of industrial materials with classic style creates a unique environment where creativity can flourish amidst the elegance and functionality of modern design

Beach House

This stunning renovation on the French Riviera is a perfect example of minimalist elegance, featuring a modern cubic design that seamlessly integrates with the surrounding natural beauty. Perched with breathtaking views of the sea, the house was reimagined to emphasize simplicity, clean lines, and harmony with its environment. Large windows invite abundant natural light, offering uninterrupted vistas of the Mediterranean, while the open-plan interior focuses on a serene, uncluttered living experience.

This project was a complete transformation, with significant upgrades to turn the house into a passive home. We installed advanced insulation, high-performance windows, and state-of-the-art climate control to maximize energy efficiency and sustainability. As a nod to the region’s heritage, traditional South of France flooring was used, adding warmth and character to the minimalist aesthetic.

Our team was fully responsible for both the architectural design and managing all the necessary official permits, ensuring the project met all regulatory requirements while achieving our vision. We oversaw every aspect, from initial concept to construction, to create a harmonious balance between modern architecture and timeless Mediterranean charm. This home is a perfect retreat for relaxation, inspiration, and sustainable living.

Urban Living

Transforming Offices into Lofts

In response to the growing trend of remote work and the increasing number of vacant office buildings, a new concept for urban apartments has been developed, focusing on the transformation of office spaces into lofts. This approach aims to address two pressing urban challenges: the underutilization of office buildings and the housing shortages faced by residents in cities like Paris, London, and Berlin.

A Vision for Adaptive Urban Living
The concept explores how to reclaim and repurpose office spaces for residential use, making these buildings vibrant and habitable once again. The transformation of offices into lofts offers unique opportunities, particularly the generous ceiling heights typically found in office buildings. This allows for airy, open spaces that are rarely available in traditional residential architecture.

A Design Philosophy of Raw Elegance
The design emphasizes raw, industrial materials such as exposed concrete, preserving the character of the original building. To counterbalance this industrial feel, warmth is introduced through the thoughtful use of wood, creating spaces that are both modern and inviting. The result is a harmonious blend of rugged authenticity and refined comfort.

  An Answer to Urban Challenges
With cities facing a housing crisis and remote work becoming increasingly common, this concept provides a sustainable and innovative solution. By converting vacant offices into lofts, these projects not only alleviate housing shortages but also breathe new life into urban environments, offering residents spacious, adaptable, and beautifully designed homes.

A Parisian Haussmannian Gem Reimagined

Nestled in the heart of Paris, this historic Haussmannian apartment has been masterfully transformed after more than 50 years without renovation. The redesign honors its classical heritage while introducing contemporary elegance, creating a perfect harmony between tradition and modernity.

The agency was involved throughout the entire process, from the initial design phase to the final stages of construction. We managed every aspect of the project, ensuring a seamless execution and overseeing all necessary permits and work. Remarkably, the entire renovation, including the design and construction phases, was completed in just six months.

Upon entering, a gallery with polished rosewood arches immediately captures the eye, leading to a sequence of interconnected rooms. This dramatic entrance sets the tone for the entire apartment, where light and proportion take center stage. The herringbone parquet floors and restored moldings preserve the charm of the past, while carefully chosen materials and finishes bring a modern sensibility.

The kitchen, both functional and elegant, features professional-grade appliances, polished Ruoms stone flooring, and a striking mosaic backsplash. Matte red cabinetry adds warmth and character, complemented by iconic design pieces like Hans Wegner chairs and Viabizzuno pendant lights. Accents such as linen tablecloths and artisanal wooden boards complete the inviting aesthetic.

One standout feature is a custom-designed bistro-style banquette, which not only adds a Parisian flair but also maximizes space and comfort. Natural banana fiber blinds dress the windows, offering texture and softness to the bright, airy spaces.

The living areas strike a balance between vintage and contemporary, with curated furniture and art that reflect timeless sophistication. Mid-century modern pieces, ceramics, and sculptures by renowned artists are thoughtfully placed, creating a sense of refinement and warmth.

In the bedroom, soft tones and luxurious materials like linen and alpaca create a serene retreat. The custom rosewood headboard integrates practical storage, while built-in bookshelves frame curated collections of ceramics and bronzes.

The bathroom is a sanctuary of indulgence, entirely clad in Carrara marble. A freestanding bathtub sits as the centerpiece, surrounded by flowing linen curtains that add an element of softness to the luxurious space.

The apartment blends classical architecture with thoughtful, modern design to create a timeless and inviting home that pays tribute to its Parisian roots while embracing a contemporary lifestyle.

Surfin Ahrenshopp

This 1980s house in Ahrenshoop, once labeled the least attractive in the district, has been reimagined as a serene and stylish surf house. The transformation balances sustainability, regional charm, and a relaxed coastal aesthetic, creating a home that is both functional and inviting.

The client’s vision centered on upgrading the house in a sustainable way while embracing its potential as a surf house. The existing structure was largely preserved, with thoughtful upgrades enhancing its functionality and aesthetic appeal. The roof was redesigned to include skylights, bringing abundant natural light into the interior and reducing the need for artificial lighting. The facade was completely transformed, inspired by the traditional homes of Ahrenshoop, ensuring the house harmonizes with its surroundings.

Scandinavian-Inspired Interior Design
The interior design reflects the simplicity and warmth of Scandinavian style, featuring clean lines, natural materials, and functional furniture. Warm parquet flooring was introduced, adding a sense of coziness throughout the home. The open kitchen, placed under the roof, showcases terrazzo finishes that add a subtle modern touch.

The layout was optimized to create a practical and welcoming space for both residents and guests. An open mezzanine and a single bedroom were reconfigured into three additional bedrooms and a bathroom, resulting in a total of four bedrooms, two bathrooms, and an open-plan living area. This clever reorganization makes the house perfect for surf enthusiasts and families alike.

With its new identity as a sustainable surf house, this property perfectly embodies the spirit of Ahrenshoop. It balances the relaxed vibe of coastal living with the timeless elegance of Scandinavian design and the authenticity of the region's architectural heritage. The result is a home that invites connection to nature and fosters a sense of calm and community.

The Architecture You Don't See

At Studio Charvet, architecture is more than just buildings—it’s about ideas, adaptability, and the pursuit of timeless design. While some of our projects come to life, others remain at the concept stage, serving as strategic exercises to explore possibilities. Not every idea gets built, but each one fuels our creativity and shapes the way we think about space.

We specialize in designing fluid, corridor-free layouts that enhance the way people live and work. Every project is an opportunity to create spaces that evolve with their users while ensuring that architecture remains sustainable—not just environmentally, but also in its ability to stand the test of time. A building that never goes out of style is the true essence of ecological design.

To push the boundaries of innovation, we integrate advanced 3D modeling with Archicad, allowing us to refine every aspect of our designs and ensure feasibility before construction begins. We also leverage AI-generated imagery to provide clients with immersive visualizations, helping them experience their future spaces before they even exist.

With multiple projects underway, our work balances creativity with technical precision, ensuring that each concept—whether built or not—contributes to the evolution of contemporary architecture.

Our Approach to Creating Residential Buildings

At Studio Charvet, we place a strong emphasis on space efficiency and innovation in the design of residential buildings. We are currently developing a housing project that integrates key priorities, combining functionality, comfort, and sustainability. Our approach is distinguished by the following:

  • Space-Efficient Floor Plans
We design layouts that maximize usable space with no wasted areas. This allows for fluid, intelligently arranged interiors where every room serves a precise and optimal purpose.

  • High-Quality Living Environments
We are committed to creating comfortable and enjoyable living spaces where every detail is carefully considered to meet the needs of residents. Our designs balance aesthetics and functionality, ensuring a space that feels like home.

  • Plans that Highlight Living Spaces
In our designs, living spaces take center stage. We've worked on apartment layouts where the goal is to minimize service areas such as ducts and maximize open, livable areas. Each apartment is designed with access to outdoor spaces, ensuring a connection to the exterior for every resident.

Additionally, we employ a modular approach that allows floor plans to be interchangeable, resulting in a dynamic façade that plays with solids and voids. When an interior space is pleasant to live in, it naturally reflects on the exterior, creating a building with timeless architectural appeal.

While principles like Sullivan's "Form Follows Function" are often debated, experience has shown us that when a building functions perfectly for its inhabitants, its architecture becomes both enduring and sustainable.

  • Ecological Standards
Adhering to the latest environmental regulations is a top priority. We incorporate sustainable practices in our projects, from material selection to energy efficiency, to ensure a positive environmental impact and meet future challenges.

  • Aesthetic Appeal
The visual harmony of our buildings is essential. We aim to create attractive and serene living spaces, where aesthetics blend seamlessly with ergonomics, and every detail contributes to a peaceful and inspiring atmosphere.

In this process, we also emphasize modern needs, such as creating well-designed bedrooms and bathrooms that provide both comfort and functionality within a stylish and harmonious environment. Every project reflects not just modern principles, but also a tailored vision that respects individuality, enhances daily living, and creates spaces that truly inspire.

London Calling

Nestled in the heart of Chelsea, near the Thames and the iconic Chelsea Harbour, this project perfectly blends British heritage with the city’s vibrant, modern energy. Victorian houses, red-brick facades, and London’s ever-evolving skyline provide the backdrop for an apartment designed to offer unparalleled luxury and a unique signature style. Xavier Charvet sought to create a haven of serenity amidst the urban dynamism, merging timeless elegance with contemporary sophistication.

  Interior Design:

Custom Furniture and Atmosphere
Every element of the apartment is meticulously curated, from bespoke furniture to carefully chosen materials. Xavier’s Bilboquet collection, inspired by the childhood game, adds playful elegance with its spherical motifs. Rounded furniture shapes soften the space, while custom dark wood contrasts beautifully with light parquet flooring. The open-plan kitchen, with its discreet luxury, blends seamlessly into the living area, creating a cohesive and inviting space. A marble bar with golden inclusions and signature lighting enhances the apartment’s understated opulence.

Bedrooms and Private Spaces: Materials and Inspirations

Each bedroom reflects Xavier’s mastery of subtle yet impactful design. The master bedroom features a monochromatic palette of soft whites and blues, complemented by black and gold accents and a pure wool carpet for ultimate comfort. The guest bedroom offers a decadent retreat with cream tones, turquoise accents, and linen bedding, while the third bedroom exudes warmth with rosy walls and rounded golden light fixtures. Bathrooms in minimalist marble echo the suite’s elegance, and the bespoke walnut walk-in closet creates a refined, masculine ambiance. Each detail, from art by Mona Abich to handmade furniture, contributes to an unparalleled living experience.

Parisian Flair in Berlin

In 2015, a renowned German luxury apartment developer, commissioned a prestigious 140 m² apartment project in the residential area of Dahlem, Berlin. Located on the ground floor of a high-end building, the apartment is situated in an idyllic setting at the edge of the forest, offering tranquility while remaining close to the bustling area of Kurfürstendamm.

Project Overview

The apartment includes:

  • A master bedroom with a custom walk-in closet,
  • A functional office,
  • A contemporary kitchen,
  • An elegant dining area,
  • A spacious and inviting living room.

Every detail was carefully considered to meet the client's expectations for comfort and refinement. The entire project was overseen from material selection to the design of custom furniture.

Design and Execution

The interior design combines high-end minimalism with warmth. Natural materials such as oak, stone, steel, as well as fabrics like linen and velvet, create a luxurious and timeless atmosphere.

Notable elements include:

  • An elegant fireplace, matched with a custom-designed coffee table and TV stand.
  • A large, dark wood bookshelf with built-in storage spaces and a hidden desk.
  • A custom-made velvet sofa, three meters in length, designed to accommodate numerous guests while optimizing space.

The open living room flows seamlessly into the dining area, which connects to the kitchen. The use of oak wood for the oval dining table adds a rustic touch to the contemporary design, creating a balance between modernity and raw materials.

The neutral color palette, dominated by beige tones, allows natural light to fill the space, creating a bright and airy interior.

Discreet and Contemporary Luxury

The project embodies a vision of design as a "tailor-made suit," perfectly adapted to both the space and the client's lifestyle. Every room reflects a refined aesthetic, avoiding ostentation while showcasing high-quality materials.

Bespoke Expertise

The project demonstrates the ability to blend functionality and elegance, resulting in an apartment where every detail tells a story.

This 2015 project in Dahlem remains a key reference, showcasing expertise in high-end architecture and interior design.

Villa Bernadotte: Timeless Elegance in Berlin

In collaboration with Primus, we had the privilege of reimagining Villa Bernadotte, a 700 m² architectural gem located in Berlin. Our mission was to refine the initial plans and redesign the interiors to create a space where elegance meets functionality.

The villa is an ode to modern luxury, thoughtfully crafted to meet the highest standards:

  • A serene spa for relaxation,
  • A private office for focus and creativity,
  • A spacious living room and dining area for entertaining,
  • A cozy TV lounge for intimate family moments.

Each bedroom is en suite, ensuring comfort and privacy, while the master suite on the top floor is a haven of luxury, combining timeless design with full accessibility.

At the heart of the villa is a spiral staircase, an architectural statement piece that connects all floors with elegance. To enhance accessibility, an elevator seamlessly integrates all levels, ensuring every space is inclusive and functional.

By using our expertise in architecture and interior design, we transformed Villa Bernadotte into a home that balances contemporary aesthetics with practical living. This project showcases the importance of early involvement in the design process, allowing us to harmonize every detail from structure to interiors.

To explore more about Villa Bernadotte, visit the official gallery on Primus's website.

Villa Bernadotte is a testament to our commitment to creating unique spaces that combine elegance, functionality, and timeless appeal, right here in Berlin.

Banaue's Nest

Banaue's Nest – A Harmonious Fusion of Tradition and Modernity

Nestled in the heart of Banaue, Philippines, this architectural project blends seamlessly into the iconic landscape of terraced rice fields, renowned for their breathtaking panoramic views. Designed with the environment and community in mind, this multifunctional space offers a unique blend of comfort, sustainability, and cultural respect, serving both tourists and the local population.

Local Materials: Embracing Authenticity and Sustainability

Our design emphasizes the use of locally sourced materials to preserve the environmental and cultural integrity of the area. Black stone, abundant in the region, forms the foundation and load-bearing walls, creating a strong visual connection with the terraced fields. Bamboo and wood are incorporated into the lighter structures, adding warmth and authenticity to the design.

In response to the logistical challenges of transporting materials through the rugged landscape, we’ve employed modular construction techniques. Prefabricated modules are brought on-site and assembled with minimal disruption to the local community, ensuring an eco-friendly approach.

Spatial and Social Integration: Fostering Connections

Our project is designed to foster both social interaction and cultural exchange. At its heart, the central forum offers an open space where locals and visitors can come together, share ideas, and participate in community events.

A vibrant open kitchen in the restaurant invites guests to explore local cuisine and engage in culinary workshops, promoting connection and collaboration between tourists and the community.

Tourist Accommodation Program: Diverse Options for Every Need

The accommodation program offers something for everyone. Communal dormitories provide an affordable and social option for travelers, while private rooms offer peace and comfort for those seeking solitude. Each living space is thoughtfully designed to ensure comfort and connection with nature.

Wooden bunk beds in the dormitories create a cozy, communal atmosphere, while classic rooms feature private courtyards, ideal for relaxation and private moments of reflection.

The Grand Protective Roof: The Nest

Drawing inspiration from the natural canopy of the surrounding forest, the grand protective roof provides shelter and thermal regulation. Made with local materials such as thatch or tiles, this gently sloping roof ensures comfort and protection from the elements, while also enhancing the building’s natural ventilation and lighting.

The expansive roof creates a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces, allowing visitors to fully enjoy the breathtaking surroundings.

Cultural Sensitivity and Community Engagement

Our project deeply respects the cultural significance of the Banaue terraces. The open forum and restaurant serve as spaces for cultural exchange, where local artisans and performers can showcase their crafts. Visitors can learn about the heritage of the Ifugao people through interactive experiences and workshops.

Community engagement is at the heart of this project. By involving local craftsmen and laborers in the construction process, we create both authentic architecture and economic opportunities for the community.

A Sustainable Future

Banaue's Nest is not just an architectural endeavor; it’s a model of sustainable development. The building’s design celebrates both the natural beauty of the terraced rice fields and the rich cultural heritage of the Ifugao people. This project offers more than just a place to stay—it’s an immersive experience that fosters lasting memories, meaningful cultural exchanges, and a deep connection to the land and community.

We hope Banaue’s Nest will become a beacon of Filipino hospitality, welcoming travelers from around the world while supporting the local economy and honoring the traditions of the region.

Seezeit Hotel

Hotel-Charvet-Architect-Berlin

For the Seezeit Hotel, we drew inspiration from the timeless sophistication of Haussmannian Paris to redefine its identity. Over the years, the building had undergone numerous modifications, resulting in a lack of stylistic coherence. Our mission was to create a calm and elegant atmosphere that blends historic charm with contemporary luxury.

Inspired by the chic allure of Haussmann architecture, we introduced classic boiseries to the walls, adding depth and refinement to the interiors. The design also nods to the legendary Hemingway Bar in Paris, incorporating its understated glamour and warm, inviting aesthetic.

Our approach was not only about transformation but also preservation. High-quality elements such as the marble and solid woodwork were carefully retained and enhanced to maintain the building’s authenticity and character. This allowed us to honor the hotel’s rich history while modernizing it for contemporary guests.

As part of the Seezeit Hotel transformation, we also proposed expanding the space near the lake to create a serene, open environment inspired by modern minimalism and a focus on wellness. This area was envisioned as a tranquil retreat, offering guests a stronger connection to the surrounding natural beauty while embodying contemporary elegance.

The renovation extended to the hotel’s 60 bedrooms, where we introduced calming, refined designs that prioritize comfort and functionality. Each room was reimagined to align with the theme of wellness, blending clean lines, neutral tones, and thoughtfully curated details to create a restful and restorative atmosphere.

Additionally, we revitalized the wedding venue, transforming it into a more modern and versatile space. By combining minimalist aesthetics with subtle elegance, the venue now provides the perfect backdrop for unforgettable celebrations, offering an ideal balance of serenity and sophistication.

This project reflects our dedication to creating spaces that harmonize with their environment, offering both aesthetic appeal and a sense of well-being for every guest. At the Seezeit Hotel, Parisian elegance meets modern comfort—creating a luxurious and timeless retreat for those seeking charm, serenity, and rejuvenation.

This architectural study combines concrete and glass to provide strength, sustainability, and a seamless connection with the surrounding desert landscape.

Structural Design:

  • Concrete: The solid foundation of concrete ensures the building’s long-lasting durability and stability in the harsh desert conditions. Its thermal mass also contributes to energy efficiency by naturally regulating temperature throughout the day and night.
  • Glass: Expansive glass panels bring the desert's natural beauty inside, maximizing daylight, offering spectacular views, and enhancing the overall sense of openness within the pavilion.

Aesthetic and Functionality:

  • Modern Design: The pavilion’s clean lines and geometric shapes create a sleek and contemporary structure that stands out while blending harmoniously with the natural environment.
  • Flexible Spaces: The open layout of the pavilion is designed to adapt to various functions, ensuring that the space can be used for a variety of communal activities throughout the event.

Environmental Integration:

  • Natural Light and Ventilation: Strategic placement of glass panels maximizes natural light and enhances ventilation, ensuring a comfortable and energy-efficient atmosphere.
  • Seamless Landscape Connection: The pavilion is designed to visually and physically connect with the surrounding desert, ensuring that it feels like a natural extension of the landscape rather than an intrusion.

  • Energy Efficiency: The combination of concrete’s thermal mass and the careful placement of glass optimizes energy use, reducing reliance on artificial cooling and lighting.
  • Eco-Friendly Materials: The design prioritizes durable, sustainable materials, minimizing the building’s environmental impact while maintaining high-quality standards.

SHOA Memorial In Lyon

At Studio Charvet, we believe architecture is a powerful medium for remembrance. Our contribution to the Shoah Memorial in Lyon is designed to integrate history into the city’s urban landscape with both meaning and impact. This project was our response to the Shoah Memorial Project competition in Lyon.

The first concept is to construct a permanent metal structure using railway tracks as a tribute to the victims of the Shoah. Between these structures, black-and-white photographs of the victims, printed in A1 format on silkscreened glass, will be displayed. This installation aims to create a lasting and poignant memorial.

Following our intervention at Place Carnot, where a similar tribute now stands, we propose extending this concept to the façades of Lyon’s train stations. These new structures, made from repurposed railway tracks, serve as a stark reminder of the deportations that took place during World War II. Their presence echoes the historical role of these stations in the tragic transport of victims, ensuring that memory remains deeply embedded in the city's architecture.

Additionally, we propose placing images of victims throughout the city at key historical sites from World War II. These images will be displayed on double-skin glazed facades, ensuring their integration into the urban environment. On more contemporary buildings, we can even imagine ephemeral projections or installations that bring history to life in a dynamic way.

This project transforms public spaces into silent witnesses of history, encouraging reflection among commuters and visitors alike. More than an architectural statement, it is a lasting tribute to those who suffered—a call to remember, to reflect, and to never forget.

Our design approach is rooted in subtle yet powerful interventions. The steel elements, aged and weathered, retain the raw physicality of their past function, creating an immediate and visceral connection to history. The interplay of shadow and light on these structures throughout the day serves as a metaphor for the persistence of memory—never static, always present.

Additionally, we propose integrating digital and physical storytelling elements. QR codes subtly embedded in the structures will provide access to archival testimonies, survivor stories, and historical documentation, allowing passersby to engage with the past on a deeper level. Informational plaques, designed with minimal intervention, will guide visitors without disrupting the urban flow.

By embedding these elements into Lyon’s everyday life, we ensure that remembrance is not confined to a single location but woven into the city's fabric. The Shoah Memorial Project is not only a commemoration but also an act of responsibility—a way to ensure that history is acknowledged and carried forward by future generations.
